An Introduction To Meditation: What is Meditation and What’s it good for?
Hi,
Today we live in a fast-paced world. Things happen so quickly that more often than not, we do not have the chance to react to the things taking place in the correct manner. Most people don’t know they have a choice in how they respond.
Which is really everything.
How many people would like to have another chance at something? How many? Especially if that means you have an opportunity to save time, to learn a lesson through self-reflection… or something else.
Either way, we all win when we take a moment to breathe. When we turn within for answers, direction, calm, joy and oneness. When we learn to celebrate this gift we are happily transformed forever for our highest Good.
When a person doesn’t know
they have a chance to influence their life when they go through a challenging situation…
This is when They will often fold and fold hard!
Potentially then… Stress comes on then anxiety…fear..oh my!
Emotions get thrown all over the place…
The natural state of the human body
is balance or peace. This is different for everyone. But when you go into a highly emotional state- This means stress for many people. It only means stress though because-
We have been programmed to respond to life, our experiences and everything overall as if we are only -limited human beings.
This is just not the case. However, (only when we don’t know any better- yet) do we respond to life in modes of emotional bouts. We have been seeing that many empaths want to avoid conflicts.
They can hold their own. However, they overstand the way energy works. They know that the emotional ups and downs pause the natural equilibrium, balance, virility, and wholeness within your human body (suit).
Simply put, stresses and all perceptions therein are programmed responses which we have each picked up since we’ve been young children. What if there’s a way to reset the energy to tap back into our best state of health, mind and spirit?
This is where meditation practice comes in.
I’ve been researching the importance of maintaining a peaceful harmonious state of living. What I’ve found out over and over is this! For the past few years I’ve been wondering why I’m not about the fussing in life. I prefer to get along. Plus I noticed that when I was in certain states of consciousness – that I could feel myself either glowing while growing or simply put…falling apart.
It’s important to maintain some balance in life. This offsets many health issues and potential pitfalls. So when the body experiences any stress it stops looking for nourishment, pauses overall growth and goes into fight or flight mode. This further takes the person away from feeling the connection to their true divine being.
With jobs, careers, work, thoughts, school, studies and physical day to day life… there is often no time to take notice that when you breathe deeper. Something relaxes in you. Something gives way to something more bigger, larger and greater. And that you just have to relax into the flow of the current of nature. The best way to do this is by mediation or deeper slower more intentional breathing.
When we aren’t present in life.
This is when We somehow lose the ability to think things over in favor of folks making lightning-quick decisions. Instead of taking time to contemplate and reflect and get wisdom from the inner power which we all share.
Many people haven’t learned
they have a choice in life by how they respond to life and people and events around them. Then they get out of hand. Loose their cool and at times do things they really wish they could undo or take back. Then they feel powerless on top of that. Which is of no use to moving forward. As the spirling continues. How can we break the cycle?
Going bonkers over life is an option- But it shouldn’t be so. Getting out of sorts with our original nature can mess up our health. Truly the way we breathe and carry ourselves has everything to do with the level of success we get in life. It doesn’t seem to make a difference. However, think about the quality of life you want. That’s what matters to many people Most.
Every one of us needs to slow down a little from time to time and be calm. Otherwise, stress will build up and will affect how we deal with the people around us, our health, wellbeing, mindset and not only in the workplace but also at home.
The practice of meditation
is a way for us to be still for a while and let our minds become focused until we come into a state of ease which automatically aids us in dealing with the daily so-called pressures of life.
Meditation has come a long way. Everyone has a certain belief about it once they learn what meditation is. Yes, Some may think that meditation is a completely religious practice. While it is true that a lot of religions, especially Eastern ones, take meditation as an integral part of their practice, it is not necessarily the case. In fact, more and more people who aren’t necessarily religious get into meditation.
People practice meditation
for a variety of reasons. While we already mentioned that it helps with coming back into rhythm with nature and with life. As you become still in this fast-paced world, you will benefit and quickly in several ways.
Here’s a question for you to ask of yourself. Why would you meditate? What are you wanting to gain from a meditation practice? Why do you feel other people meditate?
It’s been said that Other people meditate for health reasons and to attain a higher state of consciousness, to relax, find more appreciation in life, to connect with psychic powers, for connecting to the other side before talking to the dead, for others it’s to remind themselves of their life goals among others.
So if you think that life is stressing you out, it’s probably time for you to slow things down a little bit. It’s also time to learn that you are not your body or your mind. And even though, Your mind could probably be too distracted with so many things to consider and to think about. Meditation can surely assist.
Meditation can help you breathe in more of life. It can remind you to be in the flow of life better, to calm down and remind you to be stress and worry-free. To recall you into your own peaceful nature.
Meditation to Improve Concentration
Today, there are a lot of things that help in keeping us entertained. On the internet alone, there are a multitude of websites that do such that like video sharing sites, gaming sites and other websites which cater to our interests.
While there is nothing wrong with entertaining ourselves, a problem arises with our constant need for distractions. Because of that, it becomes difficult for us to focus on one thing.
We do not need to take extreme measures to help us focus. Besides, There are practices which can truly help improve this area. This includes the practice of meditation.
People take up meditation for different purposes and improving concentration is one of them. There are several methods by which meditation helps one accomplish more focus.
One is through breathing exercises.
Even an exercise that is as simple as being aware of the times we inhale and exhale can do wonders to our ability to concentrate.
While it may sound easy, it can be quite difficult especially if one has to deal with distractions such as outside noise. lol. This can be overcome. Just stay with me here.
Another method is by reciting a mantra.
A mantra is a phrase, word or a sound that is recited repeatedly. For Catholics, some folks have said that praying with the rosary while chanting is a way of using a mantra.
The magic of using a mantra lies in the repetition of using it. Once a mantra is used, it becomes the center of the meditation to which the person’s attention becomes focused.
There are more methods where meditation can help improve concentration. However, the two mentioned above are the most basic and could help beginners start out with their own meditation practice.
Breathing and Meditation
Breathing is an integral part of meditation. Proper breathing is required in practices of meditation and is, therefore, an important tool to harness by people who wish to enjoy a better quality of life.
In truth, The practice of proper breathing while meditating helps a person relax while doing their inner reflecting, deep thought, mental processing, and even during exercise.
During meditation, the Proper breathing is achieved by inhaling through the nose, letting the diaphragm (not the upper chest) expand and exhaling through the mouth.
Doing this breathing slows down a person’s heart rate which leads to a relaxed mood and even blood pressure too.
Breathing also plays a significant role when a person aims to improve his/her concentration. This is done by focusing the mind on the act of taking in air and feeling it pass through the nostrils until the air is finally exhaled through the mouth.
While this may sound easy, it can be quite challenging when done for the first time. The key to actually start is to relax and not to take yourself too seriously just yet. Besides you’re learning. There’s a time for that. Take you time.
Then there’s the method
for increasing a person’s awareness. Just like the concentration technique mentioned above, it involves putting one’s attention to his/her breathing.
But instead of focusing on the act of inhaling and exhaling air, the focus could be on something like the sensation of breathing where the person trains his/her thoughts. The feeling of the air passing through the nose, filling the lungs and expanding the diaphragm is the sensation that a person should look for in this technique.
The is a meditation of mindfulness. Of being present. Noticing and enjoying. This type of meditation can help you or him/her feel how it is to be truly alive.
This article has shown how important breathing is in the practice of meditation. They go hand in hand. So It is no wonder, therefore, that the two are inseparable activities that a student of meditation should learn.
